Fill in the Blank Friday

Seneca aka Senace the Menace. Up to no good.

1.  When I wake up in the morning, the first thing I do is,   feed my kitties. They work together to wake me up every morning in new and creative ways (ie eating my hair, staring at me until I wake up, dead dropping of the headboard onto my back, knocking shit over, all three of them piling on me etc). They tell time by sunlight, so as soon as the sun rises it's breakfast time  .

2.   I can hardly wait for   my baby to hurry up and be born already. I know there's still ten days left until her due date, but I've been in early labor for 2 weeks now, my body is in agony and I haven't even got to the hard part yet. Also can't wait to try out my Belly Bandit after she's born and put their waist shrinking claims to the test.     .

3.  The quickest way to my heart is     humor      because    if I'm laughing you make me happy .

4. A little known fact about me is that     I talk to all animals as if they can understand me. They totally do btw .

5. The best part about my job   is  was  freedom! Working as a nanny you get to make your day as adventurous or laid back as you'd like. I'm looking forward to having that with Minnow. And to have freedom of movement once I get my body back. It's currently being torn apart by a cute little parasite sucking the life force from me. But I sure do love that parasite/baby SO MUCH  .

6. Something I just couldn't live without is     baths- it's the only relief of constant aches and pains  .

7.  Something useful that I wish I knew how to do is   drive. I took lessons when I lived in England 6 years ago, but didn't get my license and haven't bothered to yet. I've always biked/walked/bused everywhere and it suited me fine. But now that we have a new car, and a baby I am dying to go on road trips and not make Josh drive the whole time. So I guess it's time for me to be a grown up. For reals  .

Pretty things from Mr.Internet

Like.
I know many people have an Om tattoo... but I still would like to get one

I don't normally like dyed hair (I haven't dyed mine for 3 years), but I love this pixie blue on these two girls.

Sandal Love

With spring in the air and summer right around the corner it's that time of year where I can go for months without wearing socks! I really hate socks. I prefer bare feet, flats, moccasins, and sandals. I've been noticing these super cute sandals show up on the bloggers and their kids of all my favourite blogs. See
On Elsie (right) from A Beautiful Mess

On Taza and her daughter Elenore from Rockstar Diaries

On Miss James from Bleubird Vintage
On Natalie from Nat The Fat Rat

So, like a total dork trying to be like the cool chicks she looks up to- I ordered some.

AND I LOVE THEM!! They're super comfortable, durable (so durable the withstand salt water- hence the name), look cute and go with a lot of different outfits. I think I found my new favourite summer shoe.

I ordered the red ones, since I loved how they looked on Taza and James. But I was surprised at how many colours they came in! I also want to get the yellow and the brown ones. And since they make them for babies and kids, I want to get some cute little matching ones for Minnow, maybe next summer when she'll be walking :)

I guess this means I'm officially cool now. yes! score.

Fill in The Blank Friday

I'm a freak... I'm a werido-oo-o

1.  Today is a good day because   it's a gloriously sunny and warm spring day and I have nothing to do but enjoy it   .

2.   The best thing I did all week was    sleep- LOTS    .

3.  The current weather is     prefect sunshine      and it makes me feel     glad  .

4. The best thing about spring is     it's the prelude to summer!

5. A fashion trend that I'm dying to try out for spring is   mint coloured jeans. But since I'm currently 9 months preggers it will be another month or so before I can even consider squeezing into a pair .

6. A person who made me smile this week was    my husband Josh. He just keeps surprising me with how amazingly caring and attentive he can be. I feel so lucky to have a partner who has my back and looks out for me  .

7.  The most delicious thing I ate all week was   cheesecake yesterday at Spinnakers brew pub by my house   .

Things you should never say to a pregnant woman... A rant.

Things people should never say to a pregnant woman but still do- all the time;

-"Wow! You're so huge! Look how big you are"
The last thing an emotional woman who's gained weight wants is attention brought to her size. Just because she's pregnant doesn't mean her body should be an open topic of discussion. The polite response would be more along the lines of "Wow you're glowing! Pregnancy suits you! You're hair is so thick and luscious!" Any compliment would go very far.

-"(ANY KIND OF UNSOLICITED PARENTING ADVICE)"
One of the most annoying things I found with being pregnant is people telling me really obvious parenting advice- like they think I don't already know or couldn't figure it out on my own. Such as "You know babies need sunscreen and should be kept out of the sun"- No really? I was going to try give my baby a good base tan this summer. COME ON!? I guess it's more insulting to me since I'm in childcare so people who know me should realize that I know all this already. My advice to pregnant woman: "(nothing)". You are smart enough to figure it out on your own, and if you have a question I am more than happy to answer it.

-"My friend only gained 20 pounds when she was pregnant." or "When I was pregnant I didn't show until I was 6 months"
Every single pregnancy is different. How does comparing her to someone else supposed to make her feel? You're going to give her an eating disorder or unneeded stress. Pregnancy is the only time in a woman's life where it's healthy to gain weight. Don't take that away from her! Just let her be. And if 2 years after the baby is born she still is carrying extra weight SO WHAT? How does another person's weight affect you? Just mind yo bizness.

-"You're so huge already you must be having a boy"
Again- why is it suddenly ok to comment on someone's weight once their pregnant? Although guessing the sex of baby could be harmless fun, but insisting they're having a boy because they're SO HUGE is just rude. Everyone said that to me and I'm having a girl so.....yeah...you're dumb.

-"I hope it's a boy, I wouldn't know what to do with a girl"
My mother in law said this and it really rubbed me the wrong way. Then when she found out it was a girl she said
"She better not be a girly girl, we'll have to toughen her up" (She see's being a girl as a weakness).
How about we just let her be who she wants to be an not judge her before she even leaves the womb? I am all about letting my child discover who she is, and allowing her to think freely and create her own identity. I'm going to try to show her all side of being a woman, from being a "girly girl" and enjoying clothes, dress up and pretty things to being adventurous, getting dirty and the fun of being a tomboy. I want her to be well rounded and open minded. I want to teach her to embrace her femininity not apologize for it. Being a woman is something to be proud of. I almost feel sorry for my mother in law for feeling the need to act like a man to be validated.

I hope some of you have enjoyed my little rant. It's not supposed to be serious, just a silly rant about how people can drive you crazy when you're pregnant. And if I offended you- I'm sorry, but this is my blog and I'm entitled to my rants :)

Home and Garden FUN!

I really didn't think it has been that long since I blogged! 10 days! woah. What have I been doing?! I have been enjoying the Easter sunshine our new back deck green house my husband has been building! It's been so beautiful here in Victoria lately, it certainly feels like spring. I've even gone for an ocean front walk in just a t-shirt, ate lunch on a patio by the inner harbor, and got some colour/freckles on my face! I almost forgot just how good it feels to be warmed by the sun. It may be raining today, but it's still pretty mild, and our garden and grass are going to love it after enjoying all that sunshine!

I am so excited to start some landscaping in June! We're waiting until then because we currently have tenants in our basement suite who have an enormous dog who pees in LITERS and ruins anything that grows. Plus they're really dirty and messy with garbage. I'm so sick of having to pick up after them....sigh. But come June 1st my brother in law Logan will be moving in and helping us fix up the suite, and the yard! We plan to tear down an old ugly fence, build a new white picket fence further out in the front yard, and put paving stones for a bbq patio in an area that is all dog piss mud at the moment. Plus adding some grow boxes for our veggie garden in the front yard, build a garbage hut for our cans, and plant some trees. This summer will be really about landscaping and cleaning up the yard, next year we will have a more established garden. In the meantime, our back deck green house, indoor window boxes and "legal grow-op" in the basement works just fine.

Here are some pics of our progress so far on our adventures in home and garden!

Bay window boxes. This was before we had the grow op downstairs to start our seeds so some plants worked better than others. It's a learning process!

Bathroom ferns

Bathroom window boxes

Minnow's room plants

Kitchen cat nip

Most of those are strawberries with some different kinds of lavender. And at the bottom is an apple tree that was sliced to grow 6 different kinds of apples!

Random assortment of plants. And all that mud by the stairs is from the dog. It used to be grass. It will be a paving stone path with grass between when we get done with it!

Back deck green house! Even on a rainy day it's lovely to be in!

Introducing; our basement legal grow- op! Only veggies and herbs. No weed lol

These ALL were once just seeds.

Climate control and light cycles set up.

We will be putting a white picket fence on that cement line in front of the tree and around. Then we will build some grow boxes to go in here :D The land by the fire hydrant is city property so for now we just cut the grass there. But I think we might do some gorilla gardening in that space!
